The Journey in Waiting
It’s officially been two weeks since I arrived in my beautiful new home!
This time has been filled with getting to know the culture of Tanzania.
Here are some highlights:
Though we already have so many wonderful memories here, there has also been some disappointments. Unfortunately, we have not been able to do much of the work that we were told we would do because our work permits are required before being able to work in any official job. And not surprisingly, things have been delayed. Instead, we have been helping to teach the missionary kids their school work, along with teaching some of the graduating nursing students English.
At first, this was very frustrating for me. After experiencing two years of college, I have gotten used to the constant rush of activity; whether it be tests, studying, work, extracurriculars, or social events. I barely have a minute to breathe, much less sleep, and that has become the normal. I love the rush and the adrenaline of it all.
But here in Tanzania, life travels at a much slower pace. And because we aren’t working all day every day, it has given me a lot of spare time. But as time goes on, I realize that this actually is such a blessing. I have been able to reflect on my life, to ask myself who I am as a person, and to spend quality time with God.
God has especially showed me throughout this time the importance of waiting. Waiting has never come easy for me, but every single day this week God showed me places in the Bible where people had to wait for God's plans in order to receive what was best for them. Even David, who was called to become King, waited for years and years as a humble shepherd before coming to the throne. God is teaching me to live by faith during this time. Please pray that God's purpose and plan for me this mission year becomes more clear. But for now, it’s okay to wait.
Psalm 37:14 - “Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of Your heart.”
Hi Michaela, We just read your recent addition to your Blog. It was really interesting and we love the pictures also. Grandpa met some of Erin's relatives in our neighborhood. It was Julie's brother's wife's sisters daughter is Erin. Julie lives one block from us and Julie's parents live across the street from us. It is a small world. Michelle is sitting here beside me and said we are all related from Adam and Eve. We love you and are praying for all of you, too. Love, Grandma and Grandpa
